Deanne has held various positions in retail branch sales and service since 1996 at the Credit Union of Puget Sound which in 2001 merged with Washington’s Credit Union and later became 1st Security Bank in 2004. Deanne earned her Associate Degree in Accounting and was an Honors Graduate from Pierce College.

Deanne thoroughly enjoys building relationships with our customers. She always wants 1st Security Bank to provide not only outstanding customer service but products that meet the needs of our customers. Deanne actively supports our local branch communities by volunteering at many bank sponsored projects including our Shred-It Events and Poulsbo Kid’s Day.

Debra L. Steck

Ms. Debbie L. Steck served as Chief Operating Officer and Vice President of Production at Golf Savings Bank, a subsidiary of Sterling Financial Corp. Ms. Steck has over 20 years experience in the mortgage industry with 15 of those years working for Golf Savings Bank. Prior to her executive assignment, Ms. Steck served as Senior Vice President of Lynnwood Financial Corporation (former parent company of Golf Savings Bank) as well as being a top producing loan originator. She is a guest speaker for Seattle Mortgage Bankers Conferences and the Association of Professional Mortgage Women's Conference. Ms. Steck is also used as an industry contact by local news publications and local public news outlets to provide industry updates and consumer information. She has instructed Mortgage Loan Processing and Mortgage Loan Officer Courses at Bellevue Community College.

Dennis V. O’Leary

Dennis joined the 1st Security team as a Senior Vice President and manager of the newly formed construction lending division. His responsibilities currently include overseeing loan production for the commercial, consumer, and commercial real estate including residential construction departments. He brings over 25 years of experience in the banking industry and over 15-20 years of experience in commercial lending. He previously served for five years as Senior Vice President and Puget Sound Regional Director of the residential construction lending division for Sterling Savings Bank (following Sterling Savings Bank’s purchase of Golf Savings Bank).

Mr. O’Leary was also a 20-year employee for Golf Savings Bank that culminated as Executive Vice President of the residential construction department and a five-year member of the Board of Directors for that Bank. Mr. O’Leary holds a BA in Business Administration with a focus on Finance and Economics from Central Washington University. He resides in Edmonds with his wife and two children and is active in his church.

Donn C. Costa

Donn C. Costa has recently joined the 1st Security Bank of Washington team as Senior Vice President, Home Lending. He previously held the position of Executive Vice President at Sterling Savings Bank after their merge with Golf Savings Bank in August 2009, where he was also the bank’s Executive Vice President since 2006.

Prior to the merger with Sterling Financial Corporation, Donn was the President of Lynnwood Financial Corporation, the parent company of Golf Savings Bank. He was also a member of Golf's Board of Directors, serving on the Asset and Liability, Personnel and Lending Committees and held the position of Executive Vice President of Mortgage Lending. Mr. Costa graduated cum laude from Washington State University with a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration in 1985. He was a loan officer at Phoenix Mortgage Company in Seattle from 1987 to 1994 and consistently made the prestigious President's Club list.

In 1986, Donn served as a loan officer at Lomas and Nettleton Mortgage Company. He is the President of the Washington Mortgage Lenders and is on the Board of the Seattle Mortgage Bankers. Mr. Costa also serves on the Advisory Boards of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.

Drew B. Ness joined 1st Security Bank of Washington as Chief Operating Officer in September 2008. Mr. Ness has 21 years of diverse banking experience, including retail branch sales and service; retail network, security, and delivery systems management; and national customer service training experience.

He served as Vice President and Manager of the Corporate Deposit Operations Department for Washington Federal from February 2008 until August 2008, following its acquisition of First Mutual Bank. Mr. Ness served as Vice President and Administrative/Operations Manager of First Mutual’s Retail Banking Group from June 2004 through February 2008, and, prior to that, in a wide variety of positions at Bank of America in both Washington State and California.

Erin M. Burr

Erin joined 1st Security Bank of Washington in January 2009 and became the CRA Officer in January 2010 and the Enterprise Risk Manager in May 2012. She started her career in July 1999 as a financial examiner for the Washington State, Department of Financial Institutions, Division of Banks and remained there until 2006. After that, Erin worked at Builders Capital Mortgage in Seattle for three years as their senior underwriter. As the bank’s CRA Officer, Erin enjoys building relationships with non-profit groups that benefit the communities in which our bank serves. She is also a member of the Housing Consortium of Everett and Snohomish County and is dedicated to addressing affordable housing issues. As the Enterprise Risk Manager, Erin will use her regulatory background to help promote and build risk awareness culture throughout the bank. Erin resides in Snohomish with her husband and two children. Erin is both passionate and grateful for the work-life balance at 1st Security Bank.

Joseph C. Adams

Joseph C. Adams is a director and has been the Chief Executive Officer of 1st Security Bank of Washington since July 2004. He joined 1st Security Bank of Washington in April 2003 as the Chief Financial Officer. Mr. Adams served as Supervisory Committee Chairperson from 1993 to 1999 when the bank was Washington Credit Union.

Joe is a lawyer, having worked for Deloitte as a tax consultant, K&L Gates as a lawyer and then at Univar USA as a lawyer and Director, Regulatory Affairs. He holds a Masters Degree equivalent from the Pacific Coast Banking School. With Joe’s legal and accounting backgrounds, as well as his duties as Chief Executive Officer of 1st Security Bank of Washington, he brings a special knowledge of the financial, economic, and regulatory operations of the Bank.

Kathrine Shairrick Kathrine Shairrick has over 15 years of banking experience. While at her last position at Golf Savings, she started the mortgage loan servicing program which began with only 700 portfolio loans and grew to over 30,000, including Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, in just 5 years. Kathrine joined 1st Security Bank in December of 2012 as the Vice President of Consumer Loan Servicing and was promoted to Senior Vice President of Service & Operations in April 2013.

Kathrine was raised in Washington, spending most of her youth on Whidbey Island, where she met and married her husband. She enjoys cooking, gardening, camping and spending time with family. She has raised more than $20,000 for Breast Cancer research by participating in 3-Day Walks, personally covering about 360 miles around the Puget Sound.

Kelli Nielsen

Kelli Nielsen joined 1st Security Bank in June 2016 as the Senior Vice President of Retail Sales. Previously, Kelli was the SVP of Retail Banking, Marketing and Training for a Community Bank in Seattle. Kelli serves as the current Retail Leadership Chair and has sat on the Education Committee for the Washington Bankers Association (WBA) for a total of 14 years. Ms. Nielsen is a Task Force Committee member for the Women at Stonier, and is a Capstone Advisor for year three students at the Stonier School of Banking, American Bankers Association (ABA).

Ms. Nielsen is a graduate of the ABA- Stonier Graduate School of Banking and is a Certified Life Coach from the Life Coach Institute of Orange County.

Kelli serves on the Board of Directors for Victim Support Services in Snohomish County. She is passionate about service to the community and to our customers, as well as about the development of our employees to help maximize their potential.

Ms. Nielsen enjoys writing children’s books and has authored and published two books. Her other passions include family, married 25 years and raising their two son’s keep her running from soccer games to other school related events. She enjoys skiing and water activities with her family. She believes her personal values align with the values of 1st Security Bank and is thrilled to work for a company which inspires trust and commitment to community, customers and employees alike.

Matthew Mullet joined 1st Security Bank of Washington in July 2011 and was appointed Chief Financial Officer in September 2011. Mr. Mullet started his banking career in June 2000 as a financial examiner with the Washington Department of Financial Institutions, Division of Banks and remained there until October 2004. After that, Matthew worked at Golf Savings Bank, Seattle, WA, serving in several financial capacities, including Chief Financial Officer from May 2007 until August 2010.

When Golf Savings Bank merged with Sterling Savings Bank, Mr. Mullet held the position as Senior Vice President of the Home Loan Division until resigning to join 1st Security Bank of Washington. “The most exciting part of joining 1st Security Bank of Washington is the commitment to the customers and communities we serve. The compliments I have received on our customer service reinforce my belief on the benefits of top customer service.”

May-Ling Sowell officially joined 1st Security Bank of Washington in November 2006, after consulting with the Bank for about 8 months. She now holds the position of Senior Vice President of Compliance & Security. May-Ling has been in banking for almost 30 years, working for two other local community banks during her career, except for 2 years when she operated her own consulting business. May-Ling’s primary focus has always been regulatory compliance, internal audit and security.

When May-Ling is not on the job she spends time with her family. That includes everything from going on motorcycle trips with her husband, learning how to keep koi, watching local sport teams and reading a good mystery.

Shana Allen

Shana Allen is a highly-seasoned banking professional launching her career in banking over 23 years ago after attending the University of Washington. Shana has held positions in lending, finance, operations, and information technology making her one of the most well-rounded information technology managers in the community banking field. She is a guest speaker at industry forums and has been a primary contributor to articles published in the Puget Sound Business Journal and the Microsoft Small Business Center in the area of information security in financial services. She is committed to professional development and holds certifications in IT Service Management under the ITIL framework and is a Certified Information Systems Security Professional. Shana currently oversees the technology and operations teams at 1st Security Bank and is whole-heartedly committed to serving the Bank’s customers and employees.

When she’s not at the Bank, Shana can be found watching, cheering, fundraising, photographing, or driving to and from youth sporting events. Married with three children, Shana is both passionate and grateful for the work-life balance at 1st Security Bank.

Sue Coldwell

Now in her 16th year at the community bank headquartered in Mountlake Terrace, Coldwell has served as a loan analyst and, most recently, as Consumer Lending Manager. She has worked in the financial industry since 1986, as an underwriter with Lockheed Federal Credit Union and as President of Vacations Owners Credit Union.

The Edmonds resident has seen many changes over the years with 1st Security Bank. “We have worked very hard to create products and programs to meet the needs of our customers,” she said. “I am fortunate to work with a team of incredible and fun people who are dedicated to providing a high-level of customer service. 1st Security Bank is a great place to bank and to work!”

Vickie Jarman has been a 1st Security Bank teammate since 2002. Prior to becoming the Director of WOW, she worked in our indirect lending department.

Employees are Vickie’s number one priority! She is passionate about people and works hard to make sure each employee feels that their opinions are heard and they are a valued part of the organization. Vickie is responsible for the on-boarding and orientation of new hires where she shares the philosophy behind the culture at 1st Security Bank.

Vickie is the keeper of 1st Security Bank’s Core Values. She ensures that as the organization evolves, core values continue to reflect the personal principles that all employees stand behind and are held accountable to. One of Vickie’s main duties is to support the Employee Recognition Program, to make sure all employees are able to share appreciation for others and feel appreciated.

Because 1st Security Bank cares about its employees, Vickie heads up the ESTF (Employee Satisfaction Task Force), which is a group of employees throughout the bank who work together not only to plan fun activities for the bank as a whole but to also listen to employees as well. ESTF coordinates annual Fitness Challenges, monthly events, celebrations and casual get-togethers for employees.

Vickie also coordinates volunteer efforts for 1st Security Bank’s Shred-It and e-Waste events throughout the year. Employees are encouraged to come out and support the communities they serve.

When not cheering on employees or dancing down the halls, Vickie is playing around town with her husband and daughter, which always reminds her to keep smiling.

Ted A. Leech, our Chairman of the Board, retired from the Univar Corporation. From January 2003 to February 2005, Mr. Leech was Vice President of Business Development where he conducted feasibility studies and investigated potential investments in China, Hong Kong, Singapore, Australia, Malaysia, Indonesia and Brazil. Before that, Ted was Senior Vice President of Administration for Univar USA where he was responsible for accounting, payables/receivables, information systems, treasury, legal, human resources, and internal audit.

As a result of his professional experiences, Mr. Leech brings strong leadership, management, finance, accounting, and human resource skills to our board. His expertise also qualifies Ted as a financial expert, making him a natural choice as chairman of our Audit Committee.

Judith A. Cochrane

Judith A. Cochrane was the Vice President, Public Finance for Seattle-Northwest Securities Corporation from May 2006 until her retirement in February 2011. Prior to that, Judith was Vice President/Manager, Municipal Trading and Underwriting for BancAmerica Securities, LLC, for over two decades.

Ms. Cochrane is an arbitrator for Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) and has also served as Managing Director for Bank of America, in charge of Northwest Capital Markets. Judith retired from Seattle Northwest in February of 2011. Her professional experience brings depth to the Board in the areas of finance and the capital markets.

Michael J. Mansfield

Michael J. Mansfield joined our Board of Directors in September, 2008. Michael spent 16 years with Deloitte & Touche before joining Moss Adams in 1995 where he was a partner for more than 10 years. During his time with Moss Adams, Mr. Mansfield served as the lead of the Business Owner Succession Services Practice in the Seattle office and he served as a member of the firm’s Tax Committee. He provided taxation, business, and financial accounting services to a variety of clients in the financial services, construction, manufacturing and distribution, and service industries.

In January 2008, Mr. Mansfield left Moss Adams to start Family Fortunes, LLC., a consulting company aimed at assisting individuals and business owners in developing and executing strategic plans. In addition, Michael is a minority owner/part-time CFO for Pacific Pile & Marine, L.P., a construction company, and Columbia Pacific Finance, LLC, a financial services company. With Mr. Mansfield’s 26 years of experience as a public accountant, together with his experience in running small businesses, he brings strong leadership, management, financial and administrative skills to our organization.

Margaret R. Piesik was a senior manager for Microsoft Corporation in its PowerPoint Presentation Division. Ms. Piesik worked at Microsoft for 11 years until retiring in 1998. She served on the Board of Directors at the Providence Hospital Foundation from 2001 to 2003, and since 2004 has served as the President of Swedish Medical Center Service League. She is a co-owner of White Barn Farm, a family owned organic flower and vegetable farm.

Margaret previously served on the boards of Providence Hospital Foundation as well as the Kirkland Performance Center. Ms. Piesik is also active in local organizations such as Swedish Hospital Service League and participates in the Grow A Row program for local food banks. With her managerial expertise, various board experiences and active participation in the local community, Margaret brings a tremendous collection of knowledge and skills to our organization.

Joseph P. Zavaglia

Joseph P. Zavaglia has been the owner and operator of Zavaglia Consulting, L.L.C. since February 2008, which provides retail banking and small business advisory services to community banks. He also runs From the Heart of Italy, an Italian cooking school. Mr. Zavaglia started his career with Rainier Bank in 1975 in branch operations and was ultimately promoted to manager, overseeing up to 13 branches. From 1987 until 2003, he served as a Senior Vice President and Regional Manager with Security Pacific Bank, which acquired Rainier Bank in 1987, and then with Bank of America, which acquired Security Pacific Bank in 1992. In February 2003, Mr. Zavaglia joined First Mutual Bank as its Executive Vice President, Retail Banking Group manager. After experiencing his seventh bank merger in 2008, he made the decision to begin his consulting company and cooking school. Mr. Zavaglia has formerly held Series 6, 63, and 26 securities licenses and his state insurance license for life and disabilities. He was a member of the board of Pacific Coast Banking School for nine years, was employed as the Director of Extension Programs for four years, and is a 1986 graduate of the program. He was a member of the Pete Gross House Board for 14 years, was chair of the Italian Studies board at the University of Washington, is past State Board Chair for the March of Dimes where he served for 15 years, and is a former mentor in the Seattle University mentorship program and a former member of the Dean’s advisory board for the School of Business at Seattle University. Mr. Zavaglia is a member of the Athletic Hall of Fame, Chair of the Board of Regents, and a member of the Hall of Fame selection committee at Seattle University. Additionally, in 2012 he received a Distinguished Alumnus award from the Woodring College of Education of Western Washington University, where he currently serves as the chair of the advisory board. Mr. Zavaglia’s extensive banking experience, together with his numerous board experiences, educational background and active participation in the local community, brings valuable knowledge, experience and skills to our organization.

Marina Cofer-Wildsmith has spent 25 years working in nonprofit management and business development. In her current position, she serves as Executive Director of Bainbridge Youth Services, a 54 year old non-profit that provides free and confidential counseling for youth and young adults. Between September 2009 and October 2012, Ms. Wildsmith worked as a business growth and development consultant for health care and real estate/investment companies. As a consultant, she assisted management in the development of business and marketing plans, as well as organizational effectiveness and accountability systems. She served as the Junior Varsity and Assistant Varsity soccer coach at Bainbridge High School on Bainbridge Island, Washington from May 2008 to October 2011. Prior to 2008, Ms. Wildsmith served as Chief Executive Officer for the American Lung Association of the Northwest (2005-2007) and in numerous capacities with the Northwest, Washington and Eastern Missouri chapters of the American Lung Association including: Chief Executive Officer, American Lung Association of Washington (2003-2005); Communications and Marketing Director; and Program Director (1990-1993; 1995-2003). Her career achievements include leading the Washington Smoke Free Restaurants and Bars Initiative, developing and mobilizing the air quality forecasting model used by the media nationally, establishing the first regional office of the American Lung Association in the Pacific Northwest, and advocating for other essential legislation to improve public health. Ms. Wildsmith is also very active in the community. She has served on several boards including eight years as a director for the Puget Sound Clean Agency (2005-2013). She served three years on the Bainbridge Island Rotary Club Board of Directors (2012-2015). She has her undergraduate degree in Biology and Anthropology from the College of William and Mary, Williamsburg, VA and her graduate degree in Educational Processes from Maryville University, St. Louis, Missouri. As a result of her professional experiences and active community involvement, Ms. Wildsmith brings strong leadership, management, organization and interpersonal skills to our organization.

Mark H. Tueffers

Mark H. Tueffers is a retired owner of Gallina, LLP, a regional CPA firm serving businesses and individuals. Prior to joining Gallina, LLP in 2014, he was a founder and longtime owner of Seattle-area CPA firms, Tueffers, Guckian & Gamon, PLLC and Sutor & Tueffers. He served a diverse clientele including both general contractors and subcontractors. In the course of nearly 30 years of focusing solely on construction industry clients, he has developed a substantial expertise in matters of taxation. In the business and financial planning arena, his experience spans a wide range of capabilities. Mr. Tueffers has served as a director of 1st Security Bank since 2013. Prior to serving as a director of 1st Security Bank, he served as a Director of Golf Savings Bank from 2006 to 2010, when it was merged into Sterling Financial Corporation. Mr. Tueffers also served as a Special Advisor to the Board of the American Marine Corporation. He holds a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration (emphasis on accounting) from the University of Washington, and a Juris Doctorate degree from the University of Puget Sound. He is recently retired from the Washington State Bar Association, and is a member of the Washington Society of CPAs.
